There’s a special kind of pride that comes from caring for the places that feel like home.
At the Nature Trust of New Brunswick, volunteers are at the heart of everything we do—from maintaining trails and caring for nature preserves, to cleaning up shorelines and lending a hand in the office. Together, we protect New Brunswick’s most beautiful wild places—so they’ll stay wild forever.
If you love being outside, working with your hands, and making a lasting difference, you’ll fit right in.
Whether you can give a few hours or many, there’s a place for you here—and it starts with a simple first step: just fill out the form below. We’ll be in touch to help you find a volunteer opportunity that matches your passions and your schedule.
Volunteers are an essential part of our organization. Want to be involved? Fill out the form below!
Volunteer Opportunities
No matter the time of year, we’re always looking for volunteers to help with our ongoing projects! Whether you’re looking to support one season of bird surveys or join a long-term team of nature preserve stewards and trail maintenance volunteers, there’s always work to be done for nature:
Public Trail Maintenance: Our public trails span an impressive 63 km across 26 preserves across New Brunswick and are open for visitors to explore year-round. We rely on our community of volunteers to help us keep these trails properly maintained, no matter the season, and protect the valuable habitats of each nature preserve.
Maritime Marsh Monitoring Program: Each spring, we collaborate with Birds Canada’s Maritime Marsh Monitoring Program to conduct a series of bird surveys across a select number of nature preserves. With this data, we can track long-term population trends and assess the effectiveness of ongoing conservation efforts.
ARU Soundscape Project: We’re always looking for volunteers, bird enthusiasts, and curious nature nerds to join us in going through Autonomous Recording Unit (ARU) audio recordings to help identify bird species on our nature preserves. Whether you’re experienced with bird calls or just want to learn, your ears could help make the next big discovery!
Water Quality Testing and Monitoring Program: This program empowers volunteers to help protect freshwater ecosystems by collecting reliable, on-the-ground data. By learning simple water quality testing methods, volunteers help fill important gaps in the water data in New Brunswick, particularly on Nature Trust preserves.
If you’d like to get involved with any of these projects, fill out our Volunteer Interest form below or reach out to our Engagement team at engage@ntnb.org for more information and training.
Volunteer Training Days and Other Events
After attending a Volunteer Training Day, you will be equipped to volunteer independently and perform trail maintenance and general monitoring on our nature preserves. Participants can expect hands-on learning opportunities, insights from seasoned experts, and opportunities to network with fellow nature enthusiasts and engage in meaningful stewardship activities. Rain or shine, we're eager to join you on the trails for a day of hands-on volunteer training and connection in nature!
Check our upcoming events calendar to see if there’s a Volunteer Training Day coming up in your area.
And don’t worry if you're finding us later in the spring or summer! We continue to offer training sessions as new volunteers join, so you can jump in anytime. Whether it’s June or September, there’s always a way to get involved, learn, and make an immediate impact.
